Selecting a timber grade
Tait Flooring stocks a range of graded natural timbers in line with the Australian Standard. The natural variances in timber are carefully reviewed board by board to ensure that when you choose either Classic, Australiana or Natural you are receiving timber flooring that falls within the grade.
Classic Grade
Timber flooring that has been carefully graded as Classic Grade has subtle and relatively consistent variation in its natural characteristics. Its limited natural features provide a smooth and minimalist floor that is well suited to both modern and traditional decor.
Australiana Grade
This grade has many features such as gum veins, spirals, burls, insect trails and other natural variations. Each of these, signatures of nature, adds to the overall aesthetics of the floor and each one is a visual chronicle of the life of the tree. Every board has a story to tell whether it is drought, bushfire, flood or insect travels and each has a unique beauty that only nature can recreate.
Natural Grade
Natural Grade timber flooring is a conservation grade and as such has a high level of characteristics just as nature created them. It provides a beautiful, rugged and rustic appearance that adds both warmth and character to any floor.
Note: Not all timber is graded the same. Exotic timber has different criteria. See individual data sheets for more information or ask our staff if you need further information.
Timber variation explained
Every piece is different… nature’s guarantee.
It should be noted that wood is a natural material and variations in colour, texture and other naturally occurring features occur between batches of the same species.
Different floor finishes also cause variation in appearance.
In all cases timber flooring supplied in job quantities will contain some variations from job to job and from samples on display.
The panels on the floor are indicative of the specie and its grade.
Please ask our staff if you need further information.
How dry should my timber be?
All solid hardwood flooring supplied by Tait Flooring is kiln dried using computer control technology. All flooring must be dried to between 9% and 14% moisture content in accordance with Australian Standards.
Tait Flooring undertake a number of quality control measures prior to despatch to ensure your flooring material is in the appropriate condition.
