BLACKWOOD

Blackwood is a member of the wattle family and a native hardwood sourced from Tasmania. Blackwood varies in colour from light golden-brown to deep brown, sometimes with a red-pink tint or black streaks. The heartwood is a light to dark brown with occasional red tinting, and the sapwood is straw coloured. The grain can be straight but often features fiddleback, a wavy grain pattern highly sought-after by designers, joiners and furniture makers. The Janka rating of Blackwood is 5.9
